Come and see the Baker Sanctuary at a time when few have the opportunity to visit : at dusk! We'll hike the Baker Springs Trail and look and listen for the elusive denizens of the night.
Travis Audubon Society (TAS) is a local chapter of the National Audubon Society, which is committed to protecting habitat for native biodiversity through preserve management and educational programs, including camps for children. TAS is especially interested in protecting the Golden-Cheeked Warbler, and the Baker Sanctuary typically hosts the nesting activity of more than 20 pairs of birds each Spring.
The hiking trails have slopes and rocky areas, so participants need to be able to negotiate uneven terrain. Wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, come prepared with drinking water and a snack if needed, and be sure to bring a headlamp or a flashlight, as the majority of the hike will occur in the dark.
