Travis County Hike at Canyon Vista

  • January 4, 2014 · 1:00 PM

Join Travis County Staff for an interpretive hike at the BCP tract at Canyon Vista (near Laurel Mountain Elementary on DK Ranch Road) . On the way, we will proceed through Golden Cheeked Warbler habitat and be able to get a couple of nice views of the canyonlands. We will also highlight the native flora and fauna of the area, and hope to hear some birds which winter around Northwest Austin.

The hike is of moderate difficulty, so come with appropriate footwear (hiking boots suggested; no flip-flops) and weather-specific clothing (jeans or cargo pants, coat or rain coat, etc.). Also, be sure to bring sunscreen/hat, insect repellant, drinking water, and any snacks you may need. Hike is restricted to participants 8 years and older.

*Note* We will be walking through some uneven points during the hike, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear - i.e. hiking boots or tennis shoes at the least.

**Note** - Specific directions will be given to hike participants 2 days (Jan. 2) in advance of the hike.

The hike will begin in this general area near Laurel Mountain Elementary; as mentioned previously, I'll send specific directions 2 days in advance. Here is a map of the general area:
