Dear Beatle Friends;
One recent Sunday afternoon in June, musicians were issued a summons for playing music at Strawberry Fields, Central Park, New York City. This was not the first time it happened. On several other occasions, musicians were fined for playing the music of John Lennon and The Beatles, while visitors from all over the world were listening and enjoying the music at Strawberry Fields, the place dedicated to John Lennon, one of the greatest musicians of our time. The fines range from $50 to $200, which is a heavy burden for most musicians, and an unreasonable penalty for persons who are only playing music, not committing crimes. We understand that the Central Park Conservancy, NYC Parks Dept. and NYPD are just doing their jobs. Strawberry Fields is currently designated as “Quiet Zone” where musical instruments are prohibited, along with radios, running, rollerblading, and bike riding. We feel that playing music at Strawberry Fields during reasonable hours, at reasonable volume, is not only harmless, but actually spreads love and joy among people. The "Imagine" mosaic is one of the top tourist attractions in NYC. Whether they are visitors just strolling through Central Park or John Lennon fans from around the world making a pilgrimage to Strawberry Fields, people have been touched by the music at Strawberry Fields. Visitors listen, sing along, their children dancing at their feet, and it becomes a very special part of their visit to New York City. We are asking Mayor Bloomberg, NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation, Central Conservancy and Ms. Yoko Ono: Please allow the music of John Lennon & The Beatles at Strawberry Fields during reasonable hours on the weekends by reconsidering the “Quiet Zone” rule and introducing a “Quiet Zone Time.” If you feel the same way, please sign the petition. Please tell your family and friends about this petition. People throughout the United States and around the world can sign our online petition at http://www.thepetitio... Good going, Eric - I was glad to see LOTS of people signing the petition tonight at The Meetles' gig at Penn Station.
I'm telling EVERYONE I know to sign the petition. And I hope we get a lot of signatures tomorrow, when the Meetles will be active near (but not actually in) Strawberry Fields. |

Hey Eric:
I have signed the petition, but I have doubt as to whether Mr Mayor will do anything, considering all we/I have done in the past, meeting with officials of the Park Conservancy. Yoko, furnishes the park/area with cash to maintain it, and in this financial climate, My Mayor loves and needs every penny. So, why would he do anything for a few musicians? Don't get me wrong. I would love to return to the days of not worrying about getting a ticket..if there were really days like those.. If Mr. Mayor would get her to bend the rules, and as others on the list have mentioned, modify the 'QUIET' hours, it surely would benefit everyone. As Mr JL had written, "You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one". That is what Mr, Mayor should understand. He should stand with the rest of us on October 9th, and breathe in and out every ounce of spirit and joy. Lv, Larry Russell |

Just a quick report.
Tonight, the Meetles, although banished from Strawberry Fields, staked out a presence near Strawberry Fields in what I am now calling their "Exile on 72nd Street" tour. There, while performing, they gathered 140 (count 'em) SIGNATURES for their pro-Beatles music petition petition. MANY Thanks to all who signed the petition; if you haven't done so already, please follow this link: http://www.thepetitio... |

Just another quick update - at least 100 additional signatures were gathered yesterday (Sunday) in Central Park.
I was there and the overwhelming majority of people REALLY seem to want John Lennon's music to go on at his memorial site. |
