Version Control with Git +Potluck

Presenter: Michelle Murrain

Version control can save a single developer from a world of hurt. Version control is essential if you have a team of developers. There are a number of version control systems, some older, some newer, some more popular than others. We'll focus on one of the most popular, git.

This presentation will briefly outline the case for version control and the major differences between modern distributed version control systems compared to older systems. Then we'll dive deeply into git, with some attention to github, an awesome cloud-based repository and collaboration system.

Thank you to Joshua, Cole, Melissa and the N. Bay WIMPs for a great Meetup. I am excited to continue following the Nexus and iHub. MUCH appreciation for what you are doing.

There's no 'maybe' so I'm going to pick no, just in case my meeting this afternoon goes late. Would be sad to miss this, though!

Quick question: is this a discussion for Git newbies or will you be covering subtleties like deployment strategies and branch architectures?

    April 22, 2013

    • Michelle M.

This is primarily for people new to git and version control. I might talk a bit about deployment strategies, but I'm not going to get deeply into branching and branch architectures (since I don't do a huge amount of that anyway, so I'm not a real git branching expert.)
