New Meetup: Text-In Meetup for Haiti Relief!

Announcing a new Meetup for Portland Microbrew Tasting Group!

What: Text-In Meetup for Haiti Relief!

When: Wednesday, January 20,[masked]:00 PM

Lucky Labrador Beer Hall
1945 NW Quimby St
Portland, OR 97209

This Meetup will be a text-in for Haiti relief! I apologize for the short notice but as live rescues continued through today in Port-au-Prince, the urgent need for support becomes more and more apparent. Major cell phone distributors are supporting a text relief program, and is urging it as well. Here's how it works: you text to the number 90999, and in the body of the text, just type "haiti" without quotes. You will then receive a return text asking you to confirm a $10 donation to the Red Cross. Your cell phone company makes this contribution on your behalf and it's conveniently added to your phone bill. My carrier is donating 100% of the $10, not just a portion. Chances are, yours is too! (Call them for details if needed.) The Salvation Army, and other relief organizations, now have similar text relief programs. Feel free to choose those instead on Wednesday (or in addition!)

A text-in may sound cheesy, but I called Red Cross in Portland and they asked me to specifically promote this program!

So let's meet at The Lucky Lab on NW Quimby to taste some great microbrews, play a board game or two, and then at 8 p.m., the text-in will begin and we will all text "haiti" to 90999 (or to similar programs.) I KNOW this group is big hearted because of your support of previous benefits! If 20 of us participate, that's $200! 30 people means $300 laughing Naturally you can text before Wednesday as well since the need is immediate and urgent!

See you at Lucky Lab!! This meetup has an UNLIMITED RSVP. If you absolutely can't make it to Lucky Lab, but you will make a text donation, then RSVP "No" and comment that you texted a relief contribution! It really helps encourage everyone! :) This is a joint meetup for both PDX Metro Social and Portland Microbrew Meetups. Thanks for reading! smile
Additional info:

T-Mobile is offering free incoming and outgoing calls to Haiti if, 1) you have a family member currently in Haiti, or 2) you will be going to Haiti for volunteer relief efforts. This lasts through January 31st.

Our local Red Cross on N. Vancouver Street cannot accept volunteers and cannot accept donations of supplies. If you prefer to make a financial contribution to the Red Cross in person, you can do this at their office before 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
