When life hands you lemons what do you do?

YOU MAKE LIMONCELLO!

Batch #1

Aunt Gloria's authentic Sicilian limoncello recipe (some of us sampled the very last of it at an Italian nite meetup long ago):  70 lemons, 7 bottles of Everclear, 16 cups of sugar, and 2 gallons of water!  Whoosh!  Stay away from an open flame!

Tonight we peel. Everyone please bring $15, 7 large lemons and a good peeler.

Potluck/BYOB...bring whatever the heck you want.

Here's the process.  In the bottom of the container we place all the peels.  Then I add the (7) 750ml bottles of alcohol.  The mixture gets happy for two weeks.  Then I strain it a few times through cheesecloth.  Then I prepare a simple syrup of sugar and water.  After it cools, its then added to the lemon-enfused alcohol.  When this happens the liquid turns bright yellow.  It then gets even happier over one more week.

Remember the Little Red Hen??  Who will help me make the limoncello?

"Not I," barked the lazy dog.
"Not I," purred the sleepy cat.
"Not I," quacked the noisy yellow duck.

Who will help me drink the limoncello?

"I will," barked the lazy dog.
"I will," purred the sleepy cat.
"I will," quacked the noisy yellow duck.

"No; I will!" said the Little Red Hen.

Soon after, she passed out, went to St Charles and had her stomach pumped.  I understand her new drink of choice is "Tonic and lime"...

My father always took a bottle of Early Times camping--he said it smoothed out the roots under the pup tent!
