Tarik Sultan's Baladi Beat Belly Dance proudly present Rachid Alexsander of the Nethrlands first time in NYC.

Rachid Alexander is a well educated performer in the art of Oriental dance. A native of Curacao, his inspiration was ignited when as boy, he saw a performance of Oriental Dance at a theme park in the Netherlands.

Once back in Curacao, he studied with Zareefa al Noor. Later he traveled to Miami to study at MEDE (The Middle Eastern dance exchange) and with other master dance teachers.

Now living in The Netherlands he performs all over Europe, the USA and Asia, teaching workshops and is a regular judge at several dance competitions.

A highlight of his dance career includes being chosen one of the best performers in Holland’s got Talent. He also won the first prize in the University of the Netherlands Antilles talents show. In The Netherlands Rachid has performed at the prestigious Amstel Hotel, The Holland Casino and the annual Society lunch; which was attended by many well known Dutch celebrities. Rachid has also been featured several times in magazines, press and in TV programs as well as being a featured performer at Holland’s Dunya Festival of the performing arts in Rotterdam.

Full of dynamic energy and passion he reveals the beauty of oriental dance and Middle Eastern rhythms!!!

Workshop Descriptions:
Workshop #1: Modern Egyptian technique with style and attitude.
In this workshop Rachid will teach various techniques and combinations that are popular in Modern Egyptian/Cairo style Oriental Dance. In addition, he will incorporate his own unique style and combinations. Participants will learn how to transition from one move to another and how to infuse their dance with fluid juicy hips. 2.5 hrs

Workshop #2: Rachid’s Supper Shimmies and drills: Here he will teach a very intensive workshop on a variety of shimmies which will include layering and combinations. Participants will learn over 14 kinds of shimmies. Rachid will explain the difference between the shimmies and how they can add excitement to a performance. Some of the shimmies he will teach are the Lebanese stamp shimmy, Samba shimmy, Belly flutter, Figure N-shimmy and more! 2.5hrs

Workshop #3: Drum Solo Choreography: Rachid will teach a drum solo choreography featuring dynamic locks, pops and exciting shimmies guaranteed to be a show stopper for any dance routine! 3hrs

Time: Doors open 4:30PM. Show begins 5:00PM until 9:00PM

    Very good Workshop. Rachid was a very good teacher, gave lots of explanations and helped students to master difficult movements, with lots of patience and encouragement. He also had a great freindly personality and sense of humor.
