The United Secular Alliance at VCU (affiliates of the Atheist Alliance International, the Student Secular Alliance and the Rational Response Squad) are proud to present a lively debate between Christian apologist/author Frank Turek and author/atheist Christopher Hitchens.

Please come out and engage in this lively debate.

The debate will be moderated by Dean Timothy Hulsey.

Timothy Hulsey, Ph.D., is the Dean of the Honors College and Associate Professor of Psychology. Prior to coming to VCU, he was Director of the Honors Program at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

Dr. Hulsey has published numerous articles in scholarly journals, as well as a book entitled “Moral Cruelty: Ameaning and the justification of harm.” He has received several teaching and research awards, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching from Texas State University, the Fellowship Award of the American Psychoanalytic Association and Who's Who Among American University and College Teachers.

Dr. Hulsey received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee, his M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Trinity University and his B.A. in Psychology from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He has also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology at Dartmouth Medical School.

Frank Turek is the founder and president of CrossExamined.org and its primary presenter. Frank is a coauthor of two award-winning books: I Don’t have Enough Faith to be an Atheist, and Legislating Morality.

He has appeared as a guest on numerous other TV and radio programs including: The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity and Colmes, Faith under Fire, Politically Incorrect, The Bible Answerman, and Focus on the Family.

Frank has hunted for Noah’s Ark in Iran and other Biblical artifacts overseas. He has a Masters from The George Washington University and a Doctorate in Apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary.

Christopher Hitchens is an English-American author, journalist and literary critic.

Christopher has been a columnist at Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, World Affairs, The Nation, Slate, Free Inquiry, and a variety of other media outlets.

Christopher is also a political observer, whose best-selling books — the latest being God Is Not Great— have made him a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits.

Christopher is said to be a polemicist and intellectual. While he was once identified with the Anglo-American radical political left, he has latterly embraced some arguably right-wing causes, notably the Iraq War.

Formerly a Trotskyist and a fixture in the left wing publications of both the United Kingdom and United States, Christopher departed from the consensus of the political left in 1989 after what he called the "tepid reaction" of the European left following Ayatollah Khomeini's issue of a fatwa calling for the murder of Salman Rushdie. The September 11, 2001 attacks strengthened his embrace of an interventionist foreign policy, and his vociferous criticism of what he calls "fascism with an Islamic face". He is known for his ardent admiration of George Orwell, Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson, and for his excoriating critiques of Mother Teresa, Henry Kissinger, and Bill Clinton.

Christopher is an antitheist, and he describes himself as a believer in the Enlightenment values of secularism, humanism, and reason.

A lot of fun aspects, but the debate itself was disappointing. Check out http://rudyhenkel.livejourn... for why.
