Why?

 There is a great resurgence of interest in all things Sephardic (Spanish-Jewish) among the Benei Anusim (Hebrew for: Descendants of the Spanish-Jews forced to convert before 1492) throughout the Spanish and Portuguese lands, including South Texas. We meet to explore all questions relating to this international phenomenon of Return.

Purpose:

  Attention is centered on historical, cultural, and philosophical topics and propagandizing for any one faith is discouraged. Among cultural questions discussed are Ladino, Biblical and Modern Israeli Hebrew, as well as the older, pre-Exile (1492) Sephardic Mystical and ethical teachings continued in secrecy by many of the Converso families of South Texas. Most participants are Spanish-English bi-lingual and discussions may be in either language. Still, an active command of Spanish is not a prerequisite.

Who should join?

  All denominations and ideologies are welcome, though the group cannot and will not serve as a propaganda platform for any particular one of them.
