What do you think? Should we broadcast a live video stream to our group front page?

Meetup has a new feature. We can now stream an internet video broadcast of our game night to our group's front page. You can read all about it here: http://meetupblog.meetup.com/2010/02/new-feature-live-streaming-video-on-your-groups-home-page.html So what do you think?

What information should new members be required to provide before they can join our Meetup group?

Meetup.com allows an organizer to set requirements for joining a group. Currently, our group requires potential members to provide an answer to the question "Why do you want to join this group?" New members must also be approved by an organizer. Originally, those steps were not required, but it resulted in getting a lot of people joining who really never had any intention of coming and were simply using Meetup as a dating site. So by requiring them to answer a question, we effectively inserted a pause for reflection in the average Meetup user's behavior. What we really want is people who are truly interested in board games! Recently Meetup has added additional features that enable organizers to 1) require a new member to upload an image or photo to represent themselves before they can join. 2) require that a new member answer all profile questions. I'd like to know if you existing members think our group should impose such requirements on new members?

What number of people is ideal for a game night?

I think we can all agree that all you need to have fun playing a game is a good game and some stimulating opponents. When it comes to an entire game night, however, sometimes having more people about can increases your chances of getting to play certain kinds of games or getting to play with new and interesting people. This poll is about your preference for the total number of people that should be present on a game night. Given a room of infinite size, how many people (not including yourself) should ideally be present at a game night?

Have you visited Boardgamegeek.com? Do you find it useful?

Board Game Geek <http://www.boardgamegeek.com>, or the 'Geek as its often affectionately called, is a great Web site for information about board games. If a board game exists, it probably has an entry on the 'Geek. There you will find descriptions, images, reviews, rules, strategy tips, session reports, variants, player aids, links and all manner of discussion about games in general and for each and every game specifically. The site has personal tools for you to help you rate, keep a collection of your favorite board games, keep track of your game experiences and more. And it's all free! For board games, there really is no better Web site!
