Rights of Parents with "Extreme" Views

Steve of Atlanta Moderates Liberals & Progressives has volunteered to co-moderate a discussion on Parental Rights in cases where parents hold so-called "extremist" views.

Because of our small size (15), all registrants will be expected to be prepared on the subject, perhaps with their own research, and to verbally participate.

Here are some initial links Steve found, feel free to add more in the comments.

No-Show policy: people who RSVP yes and don't show may be banned from future events. If you've actually shown up to at least one event, much leeway will be given. "No show" includes canceling the day of.

We're an eclectic group that meets to respectfully exchange ideas about controversial topics.

Our group is more focused on learning and hearing different view points than winning a debate. We try to keep the discussion respectful and encourage devil's advocates. It's a chance to talk with and learn from people you would never meet in your existing circles. The conversations are moderated to keep things friendly.

The rules are pretty simple: be nice, keep it short and sweet (no lectures), and stay on topic.

If you know of an interesting and controversial lecture, movie, author book signing, etc., let an organizer know, and we can make it a meetup event. If you'd like to volunteer to moderate a meetup about a specific topic, also let us know.

The discussion was awesome. The Government (State, CPS, Police, Authorities) should not interfere with parents and parenting, not should is care (or interfere) with the views (beliefs, thoughts, convictions) of parents or any individual.

Views, beliefs, thoughts, convictions, etc, should not be limited, controlled, spied on or dictated by the Government in any way, shape or form.

(...not so for actions... and the above does not apply to persons and/or private organizations)

Scott, I hope my not being in attendance does not ban me from future meetings. With the rain, I (being on the South side) was unable to get started early enough on my normal Saturday jog meet to then make it to the meeting in Marrietta. (I was anticipating rain, but thought it would be later in the day). My apologies.

thanks for the note Kimberly, I won't mark you down as no show. That's mainly for the people that I never hear from that just take spots.

to broaden the topic, what about parents who refuse vaccinations for their kids or home school with curriculums that don't fit the state's mandates?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
