An import from Scottsdale, Arizona, Mastro's embraces classic steakhouse traditions as warmly as it welcomes the moneyed clientele that frequent this bustling eatery. A relatively sedate dining room occupies the ground floor, while a lively bar scene---downright boisterous by buttoned-down steakhouse standards---awaits upstairs, along with additional dining space. A more modern interpretation of the clubby American steakhouse, the restaurant is attractively appointed, with cushy black leather banquettes, white linen-clad tables, stone accents and backlit mirrors. The straightforward but pricey menu features New York strip, porterhouse and rib-eye steaks, a very respectable rack of lamb and a smattering of options for non-carnivores (salmon, live Maine lobster, ahi). Traditional steakhouse starters include a dramatically presented shrimp cocktail (with dry ice special effects) and a gargantuan wedge of iceberg lettuce. Sides fall in line accordingly, with creamed corn, asparagus and mashed potatoes. If you still have room, try one of the classical, delightful desserts, such as the chocolate coffee cake or the pecan pie. You'll find plenty of big red wines on the pricey list; the martinis here are legendary.

“Still the king” of carnivorous consumption, this “über-steakhouse” chain hosts “wheeler dealer” types “paying a fortune” for “generous” cuts of “mouthwatering” “prime meat”, “extravagant” seafood towers and “sinful” sides, all matched with “world-class” service; the Beverly Hills branch comprises a “vibrant”, “Vegas”-like piano bar and a toned-down dining room.

A $20 deposit, which is processed through Amazon Payments, holds your seat. Deposits will be refunded electronically after the Meetup to those who attend or who cancel at least 24 hours in advance by our organizer, Christina. Forfeited deposits will be donated to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.  If you cancel for any of the events after the 24-hour deadline or don't show, then you will be removed from the group by our organizer. If you are not, then the next time that you RSVP "Yes" for any of my events in the future, I will cancel your RSVP.  Lastly, if you are often late, I will ask you not to come to my events anymore.

    This was my first time at Mastro's and it was a delicious time. Service was outstanding, they do everything for you including serving the side dishes to each person and removing lobster from the shell. Nice dining room temp and acoustics as well, easy to have a conversation. My Ceasar, Rib Eye, Scalloped Potatoes, Asparagus, Mushrooms and cocktail were quite tasty, BUT with the exception of the Asparagus and Ceasar everything was a bit under seasoned and under salted for my taste, in comparison with Cut, Craft and Ruth's Chris.. Even with that, it was a very good meal! Great dinner companions, too!

    This is my favorite LA restaurant for steak. It was my 6th time at Mastro's. I got the jumbo lump crab stuffed mushrooms again. Next time, I will get the oysters Rockefeller or steak sashimi for my appetizer. For my entree, I got the "Chef's Cut" Rib Eye Chop, which I split with Christina. It was cooked exactly the way I like it --- medium rare. I look forward to my 7th time here. I have to remember to make room for the pecan pie or key lime pie.
