Civic Hacknight

[Note about the venue - You must RSVP with the name that appears on a photo ID. RSVPs will close at 4:00 PM the day of the event in order to give building security a list.]

What is a hacknight?
This night is for technologists, designers, developers, and mapmakers who are working on projects. Consider this to be a bit of a study hall. Bring your projects, apps, datasets, and questions, and we will try to collectively answer them.

Lighting talks:
At every hacknight, we feature three lighting talks. These are 3 to 5 min long presentations that dive into projects YOU are working on.

Anita Schmid will present the ongoing NYC Daycaremap project and how it relates to the new universal pre-k.

Alan Chen of the New York City Department of Records and Information Services will share a new portal in development for agency publications (read: not data) released under Local Law 11 of 2012.  "Our team is looking for feedback in terms of UI and implementation of the search engine."  "We also hope to integrate FOIL documents into the web app down the line as a well a request system similar"

Chris Whong of will share his recent discoveries exploring and scraping NYC's budget PDFs and will show a demo of his node.js-based scraper in action.

Hi all! I forgot to mention that the NYCdaycaremap team is taking part in the BigApps competition and we are looking for someone with JavaScript knowledge and possibly with using cartoDB. Let me know if you are interested!

Hey, for those of us who missed this event last night, how'd it go with all the shiny new NYC taxi data? Any cool analyses on ride/tipping data up yet?
