Re: [openny] NYC subway usage data

This turnstile data has been on my short list to animate for a while now.  It is truly a pain in the butt to make sense of.

I want to animate entries and exits over time with dots on a map converging or diverging on stops, I think the patterns will be interesting.

I'll post it here when done!

Aaron this is great! One of our sister meetups focuses exclusively on transportation data < http://www.meetup.com/NYOpenTransport/ >.

Hi all! If you haven't seen it, you may be interested to know that NYC MTA makes available fairly complete data on subway usage, based on readings from turnstiles. It's slightly hairy to work with, but my team at a hackathon this past weekend processed it down to usage per station per day and then started to play with it a little bit (citywide visualization; Cathy's blog write-up; our slides from the event). Thought some urban planning folks might be interested! Best,
