NYC's community boards annually prepare a list of capital requests in their districts. These are passed to the relevant city agency for a response.

Staff at OMB were kind enough to provide a spreadsheet version of the latest register of spending requests, in addition to the PDF that's already online.

The machine readable version makes it possible to do a couple of interesting projects:
  • a scorecard, showing how successful each board has been in getting city help for projects
  • a breakdown of the kinds of spending boards are asking for.
I think this is a fascinating topic, so I plan on working on it at the next couple of planning hack evenings (tonight + next week). Hoping others might be interested in a collaboration -- there's a lot of text data to look at, and any kind of browser tool should be very user-centric.

Thoughts?
