Hey all -- maybe a bit horn-self-tooting, but also on topic:

Tomorrow the New York City Office of the Comptroller plans to release
the code that runs their city-wide financial transparency site,
http://checkbooknyc.com/, as open source software.

I've been working with the Comptroller's Office on this release, and
have been impressed by the depth of their pre-release planning process
-- they've been making all the right moves. Those moves are ones other
cities and government agencies might want to consider, so I wrote an
article about it at opensource.com:


Comments, thoughts welcome! Especially if you are aware of an agency
embarking on a similar release and wondering what they can do to make it
more likely to succeed.
