Re: [betaNYC] putting 311 data to work for NYC

I could pitch in as well. I adapted the Socrata API to Open311 spec a few months ago, but that project ran out of steam. This could be a good opportunity to expand in the same direction.

Hey Frank,

I'm down for this. I'm really interested in diving deep into 311 data to understand it's reliability and alignment with on-the-ground issues.

I don't have great hacking skills but I can help with research!

Best,
Jessie

Here's a possible direction for some of the BetaNYC crew this fall: turning 311 into an informative, meaningful tool for local action.

For example, what does the 311 dashboard on a Council Member's desk (or pocket) look like? With new representatives at every level of gov, what new tools using 311 data can inform them of community concerns? Can a local feedback loop with 311 help create more rewarding civic engagement?

I'm interested in working on this, focusing on communities with persistent quality of life problems. Who's in?
