Awesome!  Congrats Chris!

Let's add to NYC appellations - apart from Silicon Alley, let's make it Civic Tech Central ("working title").

And you, Noel and the usual suspects are the "con-founding" Fathers ;)

Best,
Joel

Kidding, of course.  Thanks Noel, and hello to all.  I came to NYC for grad school, I stayed for the civic tech.  This is the community that transformed NYC for me, showing me that a city of 8 million can still be a small world, and that brilliant and like-minded people can come together to make a difference.  I look forward to the great things we'll all do together to make living and working in NYC better for everyone through technology.

Friends!

This a really exciting day for BetaNYC. I finally get to clone myself! A few months ago, I asked if Chris Whong would stand up and take on a larger leadership role within BetaNYC. As of today, I'm really excited to announce that Chris Whong has accepted and will enter into the 2013 class of Code for America's Brigade Captains program!

Additionally, I would like to thank the previous work of Frank Hebbert, Ashley Williams, Veronica Ludwig, Chris Cruzcosa, and Philip Ashlock. All of them have been helping organize and run events over the last few years and wouldn't be where we are today without them. THANK YOU!

If you are interested in taking a larger role in BetaNYC, join us Oct 9th for an introduction to our volunteering opportunities. < http://www.meetup.com/betanyc/events/138162042/ >

Cheers!
Noel
