Re: [betaNYC] Webcasting (was Neighbors online trends in NYC?)

This was one of my suggestions to the tech committee - that audio only webcasting should be an option, and certiainly better than nothing. Even if it was just buying a $100 zoom recorder for each CB, and training them to upload the mp3s.

The phone thing is an interesting idea.

A number of years ago, I led an experiment called Democaster of the UK government (pre all the web-based video tools) as a proof of concept for mp3 audio webcasting of public meetings.

The vision was combining a meeting calendar with an option to dial in with a speaker phone and use that existing equipment to record and webcast.  Video ups with camera operator cost and anxiety up 10x, but at least audio should be required. We built the online tool, but not the telephone integration during the test, for $20,000. Now you could leverage tons more open source code out there and freeium services.

Ah yes, I am seeing that the webcasting bill was voted up by the Tech Committee on 11/14/2013, and it was indeed Gale who sponsored it.

There has always been some skepticism over the practicality of webcasting CBs.
