Re: [betaNYC] Webcasting (was Neighbors online trends in NYC?)

In the hearing we talked about the difficulties of occasional and moving events like CB meetings. Gale pointed out that many agencies and other city business were held in fixed and controlled settings, and were thus the "low-hanging fruit". It seems this is what they are going for. Further issues I raised were accessibility and searchability.

There is of course nothing to stop an independent corps of webcasters to take on the task. I myself have once shot CB2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfeKK4CkJtQ

Community Board and Local School Board meetings have been explicitly excluded from the recording requirements:

Section 1. Section 1063 of the New York city charter is amended by adding a new subdivision d to read as follows:

Each city agency, committee, commission and task force and the council shall record or cause to be recorded in digital video format its meetings and hearings, or portions thereof, that are required to be public pursuant to article seven of the public officers law, provided that this section shall not apply to community boards or local school boards.

Ah yes, I am seeing that the webcasting bill was voted up by the Tech Committee on 11/14/2013, and it was indeed Gale who sponsored it.

There has always been some skepticism over the practicality of webcasting CBs.
