Extracting NYPD Crime Stats from Google Map

Hello betanyc!

I heard about this group from Sonya Reynolds, after asking this question to the NOI (New Organizing Institute) listserv.

So, here's where I'm at: I am trying to get some information that the NYPD has made public, but not really accessible in any useful form.

It can be found here: http://maps.nyc.gov/crime/

What I'm interested is in getting all the point data from the map for every month at the 'graduated point map' level for all of the Bronx.

The NYPD has always been hesitant to share this kind of granular data, so it's a big step for them that this site exists at all. However, I can't find a way to get the data in some usable format, so that I can incorporate the data into a larger socioeconomic indicator to be incorporated into NYC Parks's master planning process.

Are there any tips as to how to get this information, maybe from the map itself, without having to do a FOIL request?
