Chris -

Fabulous job with the taxi visualization.

Is it easy to figure out the average total number of miles driven by NYC cabs (and limos if available) on a daily basis? I'm curious what % of overall NYC traffic is driven by vehicles for which TLC has oversight. (Anyone have ideas of how to get the total # of miles driven on NYC streets on a daily basis?)

Also interesting would be to approximate speed of trip.

Hi BetaNYC,

I'm excited to share this little side project that I've been working on with the FOIL'd NYC taxi data.  It offers a glimpse into a single 24 hour period, for a single taxi, and tallies up fares, taxes, and passengers.

I've already seen some interesting things, such as unexpected gaps during prime service hours for some taxis (why?  Long lunch breaks?  Shift Change?)  as well as some pretty big variance in daily earnings.

I hope you like it!  Blog post coming on the tech recipe, there's a lot going on under the hood.
