Hi Elcin,
I'm glad you've connected with Steve--he's the best!
Also, I'm very interested in hearing more about your work on "custom gis tools (components) that are compiled in C# for a parametric modeling environment (rhino)".

Elcin, I’m the one who created the shapefile at http://spatialityblog.com/2010/07/08/mta-gis-data-update/  The routes were created using the shapes.txt file that Tony references below, and they generally overlay well with the city’s other GIS files.  Not sure what you mean that they don’t overlap with PLUTO.  Also, the geometry of the lines are used verbatim from the MTA’s GTFS file, so it’s pretty accurate in terms of following the actual paths of the subway routes.   Perhaps if the shapefile lines don’t line up with PLUTO it’s because the tracks themselves don’t line up.

Tony, you can use the ESRI script to create the route lines, but there’s a lot more to it that I discuss at my blog post to actually convert shapes.txt into something usable.

I'd consider using the shapes.txt from the subway GTFS: http://web.mta.info/developers/data/nyct/subway/google_transit.zip

If you're using ArcGIS, you can use a tool like this: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=14189102b795412a85bc5e1e09a0bafa to turn them into a layer, and then export to shapefile.

If that doesn't work I could try another solution when I get home.

Does anyone know where can I find the dataset of subway lines in .shp (shapefile) format ?

I found a one gis file from this website http://spatialityblog.com/2010/07/08/mta-gis-data-update/ but doesn't overlapped with map Pluto tax maps or either railroad lines shape files. scale and the location didn't match.

Thank you,
