NYC Housing and Vacancy Survey Microdata

From: Kevin M.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for information on the NYC Housing and Vacancy Survey microdata. It needs a dictionary file to be imported. I called the Census department helpline for this data, and they said that some people have found import scripts online. I’ve searched around but didn’t find anything. Anyone have any ideas?

We use Stata where we work. The Digital Social Science Center of the Columbia library directed me to this help page on Stata dictionary files. I could write something like this, but it would take a long time. Complicating things somewhat is that the record layouts are presented in PDF.

Any thoughts? If there’s something out there in another language, especially R, I could convert it to Stata.
