In 1972, a group of Brooklyn Heights residents, business people, music lovers, and performers met and formed an organization designed to promote great music, to inspire our youth with a love of culture through music, and to bring enjoyment through music to the entire community. With these goals, the Brooklyn Heights Music Society was incorporated in 1973 and the Brooklyn Heights Orchestra was born. In the year 2000, the orchestra changed its name to Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra (BSO). Today, the BSO is a mix of talented amateur, semi-professional, and professional musicians from all walks of life who play for the sheer joy of the experience. The orchestra performs concerts of classical, romantic, and 20th-century works at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, in addition to concerts of smaller ensembles throughout the borough.
The[masked] concert season has been an exciting one for the BSO. Not only is it our 40th anniversary, but this season marks the beginning of a new partnership with the Brooklyn Museum of Art! All of our concerts are now held in the museum's Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium. We would be delighted if you joined us in celebrating these milestone achievements! There will be passed hors d’oeuvres, wine, cake, a champagne toast, and a silent auction. The attire is: "black tie optional." I hope to see you there!
The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 40th season! In honor of this momentous occasion, they are hosting a Black and White 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala at the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday, March 29th.
