A very well run meetup (well done Emmanuel) and three very good presentations given. All the presenters were professional in their content delivery and each gave competent responses during the question and answers section. I learnt a lot and it was definitely worthwhile attending.

My question to everybody would be, 'What are you doing in relation to transporting the big data being generated?'. Fibre Optic infrastructure with Gigabyte capability is usually needed, but it is always very expensive and subject to long term inflexible contracts.

If anybody is interested in learning about a flexible network infrastructure offering that is competitively priced, allows multiple protocol changes free of charge and which offers you the ability to shift the circuits from one location to another within the same contract paying only single low cost move charges, then please contact me - [masked]

I look forward to attending next months meetup

A very interesting and thought provoking meetup.
It's interesting that many people/organizations are placing huge amounts of data in the cloud where processing power and memory can be used when required. What options are available for information that is, commercially, politically and nationally sensitive, where placing it with third party cloud supplier's may not always be possible?

Good to hear about C4s approach to self-serve for their analysts - I think it's a smart approach. Good talks too from Ron on Gigaspaces and Mischa on PeerIndex. Nice to see a mix of batch & real-time analytics.

Is there a overlap between Big Data and NO-SQL world?

    February 13, 2013

    • Rorie D.

I would say some...one of the main benefits of Big Data I think is that you don't *have* to structure the data..therefore you don't *have* to put it into tables and rows and/or use SQL.

      February 13, 2013

    • Andrea S.

There is also an overlap in use cases, I think. If you ammass large amount of data, these may come with limited structure (or perhaps with very transient structures).

  • John S.

Very interested in learning how to monetise real time big data during the meet up on the 20th February.

I hope to connect with any organisation needing upgraded or new network infrastructure and or secured routing to sustain their growths in transporting big data
