I am currently a theoretical physics researcher at Queen Mary, University of London, looking to learn more about Big Data and Data Science.
My research involves generating and analysing data about fundamental physical interactions in the early universe just after the Big Bang. The results can tell us more about the physics of the early universe and whether our physical theories match the observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation.
I use Python with Numpy and Matplotlib extensively but also use Matlab/Octave, C and am learning about R.
What opportunities are there for someone moving from a physics background and what technologies and techniques should they be familiar with in order to work with Big Data?
