This is a FREE event!

Running time: 2 hours

Just in time for Mardi Gras, the sounds of Johnny Chimes and the Mardi Gras Band will instantly transport you from cold State Street to the heart of Bourbon Street in New Orleans. This MadCity Session is going to be a Mardi Gras party (complete with authentic music and New Orleans-inspired foods), so come dressed in your best green, gold, and purple party outfits (keep 'em family-friendly, though).

About the artist: Although Johnny Chimes resides in Madison, WI, his pumping left hand and Cajun-flavored voice might as well live in Louisiana! With influences ranging from Dr. John and Professor Longhair to Leon Russeel and Mose Allison, Johnny Chimes is a jambalaya of boogie-woogie piano, finger-style guitar, and sweet southern soul-laced vocals. Having been a career musician for more than 35 years, Chimes is an accomplished pianist, guitarist, and songwriter with the retro-cool vibe to make your whiskey taste better and your problems seem like they're just one good blues song away from vanishing into the night.

I was so looking forward to this, but got home and it was sleeting, so think I am going to bow out tonight. Hope everyone has a good time

It looks like the event is still on. I've talked to a few people who are still planning on going. According to what I've seen, weather is not supposed to get really bad until later tonight. So, for those of you that are willing to venture out, I will see you there.

I'll be checking the forecast and the Overture Center site tomorrow to see if the event gets cancelled. If we decide to play it safe, I will post a message here. I wish the snow would quit already so we can actually have decent attendance at an event this winter!

Yes, I'll be playing my attendance by ear based on how the roads are at that point.

Based on the major hail I'm hearing & seeing right now, I think I'm going to play it safe tonight instead of venturing out.

Me too. I'm at home by Lake WI so think I'll stay here tonight....I'll be out and about tomorrow night and Saturday also for the International Festival. Have fun everyone tonight!

If the weather is horrible as predicted, I may not be able to make it - I will just be focusing on trying to get home safely. Best, Kari
