A talk about Apache Mahout, a framework for machine learning and recommendations at scale, by one of its authors and Apache committer Sean Owen - hosted by NGDATA.
Sean is an associate at Pentech Ventures, an early stage technology VC in the UK. He has an MBA from London Business School, and previously worked as a software engineer at Google in New York. He is the author of the "Taste" open source collaborative filtering framework, which became Apache Mahout, and remains active in open source machine learning at scale. He is co-author of Mahout in Action.
Sean will discuss both the Alternative Least Square (ALS) algorithm in Mahout and his own continuing research on this matter.
Note: we're running tight on available space/spots. Please make sure you are effectively able to attend before you register or else drop your RSVP. We'll try to record the event.
The presentation was inspiring (regarding recommendation engines) and there was some matrix math involved so I'm a happy camper. :)

Great explanation of the concepts by a guy who clearly knows what he's talking about. A really interesting couple of presentations.
