AMC Bike Rally, Harvard MA

The AMC Bike Rally is coming up
Saturday, June 15, 2013

http://amcboston.org/bicycle/bikerally.php

$$ Registration is required with the AMC. Registration for this ride is closed (as of 6/7/2013).

Note #1: You can say you are attending here merely as an indication that you are planning on attending as a member of this meetup. It does not mean that you are actually registered for the ride.

Note #2: The 50 and 67 mile rides have an apparent detour. You should have received an email notification about this from the AMC bike rally coordinator if you did register.

This is a cue sheet ride, not necessarily a follow the leader ride. See comments. The 50 mile ride leader has posted a cue sheet for that ride that is different from the one posted on the AMC site. I am planning on riding with Stephen's crew. His route is here

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2538175

The other cue sheets are on the AMC site (link at top).

Note #3: I am not a ride leader for this trip, I am a participant.

It's a shame we included the info here about not coming without pre-registration. Neither Rob or I pre-registered and we had no problems at all signing up.. Sorry some of you missed it because of that.

A GREAT TIME as usual... I love the changes that were made to the 29 mile ride.

    June 17, 2013

    • Gail

Yes, eliminating that hill within the first mile of the 29 mile ride was a big improvement. I had walked up that hill 3 years in a row. This year I didn't have to walk any hills. And what a campus Cisco has there!

I had a great time as well. did the 29 miles w the leisurely group. Ed the sweeper is my new bff. I was on a hybrid and he never left me behind.

This was my first time at the Bike Rally. I did the 29 miler, and it was a dream.

I didn't get to see everyone b/c of all the different rides. I hope everyone had a great time. For those of you who saw the presentation by the guy from reading who road around the world, wasn't that amazing ?

nice ride, and lunch stop in east pepperell, ma. Nice ride Stephen. The dinner was great (awesome cooking bbq fare) and the speaker who road around the world was a hoot and inspiring at the same time!

Alex check with jack donahue. I am not aware of a waitlist. I have family emergency and can't contact anyone. Thx

    June 15, 2013

    • Gail

Rene, in an email Jack sent a few days ago to people signed up for everything including dinner, he mentioned a waitlist. Perhaps you are signed up for only the ride and happy hour parts.

Does AMC bike rally allow people to transfer one's registration if one is not attending? Or could I assume this is allowable? If someone here can't attend and has registered, I would be glad to take their place and repay them.

    June 14, 2013

    • Gail

You should check with the organizers if transferring a registration is acceptable; I know they have a waiting list of their own so it may not be okay.

      June 14, 2013

  • Rene

Alex I can't attend because of family emergency in CT. If you want to take my place .

    June 14, 2013

  • Gail

Read the other comments. No, you cannot attend if you haven't already registered with AMC.

I ride the Minuteman many weekends and I don't get up especially early to do so. Sure there are other people on it, cyclists and pedestrians, but I wouldn't call it crowded. However, it's not really for the speedy, never want to slow down for anything types.

Correction to above, the Off-road portion of the Peabody Independence Bikeway is 5.75 miles long, with a 1.25 mile on-road portion in the middle.

      June 14, 2013

  • Gail

I'm planning on the 29 mile ride so I may not see many of you til the end.

I'm looking at doing the 50mi. What distance is everyone else thinking about?

      June 14, 2013

Waited too late to register. I will plan better next year. Have a great ride - looks like it will be a nice day!

    June 12, 2013

    • Mr T e.

See you next time. With no rain date, it can be a risk.

      June 14, 2013

  • Mr T e.

Weather looks good for tomorrow. I am attending the 50 (riding Stephen's posted route) . Other folks here have mentioned they are attending the 30. I will be staying for the full deal, happy hour, dinner, and presentation. See you at the starting area (at the front of the hostel), and remember, parking is accross the street, south of the hostel about 100 yards

Hi! I just joined this group and signed up for the bike ride here on this site, but noticed registration is closed via the AMC site, as of yesterday. Am I still able to attend?

Can I ride if AMC site says registration is full? You don't seem to be full here.

  • sheila m.

29 is good. Riding a hybrid

    2 · May 30, 2013

    • Mr T e.

Stephen, I believe the pace you averaged last year was between 12-15, correct?

      June 7, 2013

    • Stephen L.

Yes that was the average. The route is slightly different this year. You have to bike up a gently hill to get to Shirley.

      June 7, 2013

  • Gail

Meetup will probably send out reminders of this in the days before it, even to people who haven't RSVP'ed yes here on the meetup event, but I notice from the AMC bike rally site that registrations for riders are now closed because they have reached their limit. So if you didn't register and pay through AMC, it is too late.

  • Stephen L.

I am leading a version of the 50 mile ride so as to break up the large group that usually shows for the 50. We are going to wait up for folks at intersections and mostly ride together The regular ride only regroups for lunch.

    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2538175

Of course I think my route is more scenic and has less traffic

    May 30, 2013

    • Mr T e.

i remember riding with you for the latter half of the ride. That sounds good Stephen

      May 30, 2013

  • Lamar

As one of the AMC organizers and bike leaders, I would like to remind everyone to please follow the link he provided so that you register with the AMC and not just RSVP with the meetup site. If you just RSVP you will not be registered for the rally. Thanks Mr Teige !!

Yes be sure to pre-register ignore that last comment I made.

I am planning on doing the 50. If I recall correctly, we stopped midway at Val's Pizza in Hollis, NH... I looked it up on google maps... 22 Ash St. (it is a little bit off the posted 50 cue, i.e. proctor hill rd turns into Ash and it is on the left a few hundred feet.)

    May 30, 2013

  • Eddie

I am not sure if we will be riding on the road or what. I will bring my road bicycle!

    May 29, 2013

    • Mr T e.

this is a road ride. make sure you look at the cue sheets posted on the amc site

      1 · May 29, 2013

    • Eddie

I checked the site! Good thing I read that a helmet is required because I don't have a helmet.
