This is a 34 mile loop with a little bit of everything thrown in. Starting at the train station in Waverley Sq, Belmont, we head into Waltham for a few short but steep hills. We cross over I95 and do a scenic section along the Cambridge Reservoir. Then we turn way off the beaten path in Lincoln, using a very short (as in a two-minute walk) off-road section to connect two leafy dead-ends. The next 17 miles are through leafy suburbs, farms, and nature reserves in Weston, Wayland, and Sudbury. This includes the beautiful Water Row along the Sudbury River (going the opposite direction from last week's ride). Our Lunch break is at the Lincoln Train Station (mile 25), where there's a cafe, Donelan's supermarket, and restrooms. The last 9 miles back through Lincoln and Lexington include a couple of significant climbs, and one looong downhill at the end!
Here's the route, with elevation profile:
Let's meet up at 10:00 am and be ready to start at 10:15 am. Aiming to be back before 2pm.
Waverley Sq, Belmont. Let's meet in the parking lot right in front of Dunkin Donuts (52 Church Street, Belmont, MA), across from the commuter-rail stop. Wheelworks is around the corner if you need any last-minute bike stuff. Parking is free on Sundays.
You need to be okay with a 12-14 mph pace, and some significant hills. We will wait for everyone at the top of major hills and at confusing intersections, but please don't sign up if you can't keep at least a 12mph average pace.
