Boston Bike Party: SPARKLE MOTION!

This will be a SHORT bike ride through the city, focuses on some of Boston's prettiest streets decorated with holiday lights & trees.  As always, there will be a festive after-party to warm up.

Here is the Facebook Event page:

Route Update:

We have a long & short route, and we will decide which one we'll do based on how cold it is that night.  Both are still pretty short, and both are good for seeing the city lit up with festive lights.

Short: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3697433

Long: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3720177

The after-party will be at Clerys Boston, 113 Dartmouth Street.  It's a good place for a post-ride beer or cocktail to get warmed up again.

Hope you can make it!

I gotta hand it to anyone who rode last night, because that could not have been easy, and you all got BIG cajones !(even the women!!) I am quite impressed, and I am sure it was great fun! Sorry to miss it, but I guess I don't have the cajones after all!

Overall this ride went great, but there were some safety improvements that could be made for next time. Slightly more attention should be payed to keeping the group together at intersections by having dedicated crossing guards on each side of the front end of the column. A couple of times I felt compelled to jump into the role of crossing guard when the light was changing from yellow to red and half the group still needed to cross the intersection. There was one very scary instance when the group was riding in the right hand lane approaching a left hand turn (someone apparently was confused on the directions). A car in the left hand lane wanted to proceed straight and became impatient as bikes were turning left in front of it. The over aggressive driver of the vehicle tried to force his way through the column of bikes and nearly hit one of the bicyclists as he cut the column in half. This would not have happened without the confusion on the route. In general, great job though!

I have to ruin my perfect attendance record :( The company president is coming tomorrow and I was grabbed as I was walking out the door by a group of panicked managers.

I had planned to do the ride, but I'm still at work and won't make the train in from Norwood. Have fun all those that go.

BTW: My bike has hydraulic disk brakes and low pressure 29'er tires. I ride in snow. Riding on ice is crazy!

Bike Party rides are very very slow. Slipping may occur, but no road rash going a mere 5-10mph. I'm also not expecting too much in the way of ice. BPW has been throwing down sand and salt all day... its as if they are going to infill more of the harbor ;) Tonight I will be riding my 29er MTB with music trailer in tow. I will also have a Christmas Tree in the trailer for added sparkle (not a joke). Happy Winter!

Riding in the cold / snow is an acquired taste. If you like that flavor, then you'll have loads of fun tonight. :D

BTW: I stopped posting trying to meet in Davis Square (for anyone riding from that direction) because it is getting too cold to make waiting a pleasant venture (me being the one usually a few minutes late). I'll start posting that again once we are back into Spring:)

Hey everyone! If you are a Facebook user, it would be sweet if you also RSVP'd on the Facebook event page in addition to here. Why? Because then you will get any updates that we might post (I usually post them there before posting them here). ALSO another benefit of RSVPing on the FB page is that you can easily invite your Facebook friends to join the party!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
