Ride the Minute Man Rail Trail Arlington to Bedford and Beyond?

Let's ride the very flat, Minuteman Rail Trail (~16 miles round trip). We'll poll the group to see if they would like to lengthen the ride, by going out to Concord.

I should add that I'll set a 10-14 MPH (moving average) pace with plenty of stopping at major points for the group to regroup. We'll try to keep this at a brisk pace, but be on the look out for kids, bladers, runners etc. and road crossings.

Please bring bike tire repair kit, energy snacks, water, camera, layers of clothing etc. A bike helmet is required.

Slick road surfaces cancel this ride.  My mobile number will be sent out on Friday night.

The high for Saturday is a sunny 49 degrees, so be advised to wear cold weather biking stuff (leggings, jacket, gloves with fingers,...)

Afterwards we will stop at _____________ (a pub) for food and drink and laughter. Please indicate if you're interested in going to the restaurant after the ride.

Let's meet behind the Bank of America / Not Your Average Joes parking lot near the corner of Mystic Ave and Mass Ave (RT 60 & 2A). Here is a google map link http://g.co/maps/2w7xf

I'll be wearing a bright yellow jacket and hanging out near my brown MINI cooper on the East side of the parking lot & trail.

I tried to comment through 'check in' but I don't think it came through. Bike pump broke just when I needed it this morning.
Next time. ;-) hope it was great.

Hi All, the ride is on for 2pm. If there are any blocks in the path, then we'll take a surface street. Love the sun.

I ride the Minuteman to just beyond 95 (128) almost every weekday to and from work. It is quite passable, although there are still branches and trees extending onto the pavement. Yesterday someone told me there were still trees down beyond Hartwell Avenue.

@Bill Thanks for the heads up. I'm changing the meetup to the Minute Man Rail Trail. We can meet in Arlington Center behind Not Your Average Joes restaurant. Same time, better public transport. Any preferences on food / drink?

WARNING: As of this afternoon (Friday, 11/4) the Nashua River Rail Trail is IMPASSABLE: lots of fallen limbs and trees on the trail; yellow caution tape at at least some intersections.

The restaurant is actually 31 Main street located at 31 Main street in Ayer.

The weather forecast for Ayer is: Sunny, with a high near 45. North wind between 5 and 7 mph. Last time we did this, we left the south end of the parking lot (near the bathrooms at 2:01 pm. I recommend checking your tires, bike and gear the night before and arriving 15 minutes early to put your bike together and meet the other riders.

    Dress warmly and enjoy!

    Hi Kaitlin,

Last time we did this we had the same start time and we got back with plenty time to spare. Time enough to grab a drink and catch the train. The train station is visible from the restaurant. There wasn't enough time for the commuter to sit through the entire dinner service.

If you should miss the train which is unlikely we'll make sure you get back home safely. Look forward to meeting you out in Ayer for this beautiful ride.

To clarify; the ride probably ends about 4, people usually change and the "social" gets going maybe 1/2 hr later. I believe the train is just across the street, so sounds doable. I'd offer a ride back to cambridge, but I have to leave early to throw on a suit :-). There are probably others coming from cambridge too, so you might be able to carpool with them--just post a request. Good luck.

The ride or the part at the pub ends around 6:30? looks like the last train out is at 5:50.

    Kaitlin,
I think Marina did exactly that last ride here, so she should have more details. I recall the social breaking up around 6:30pm.

I am planning on taking the commuter rail to get there, so I was wondering when we will get back (ballpark figure?) to see if that will work. Since it is Saturday, my options are limited. Thanks so much!!!
