Wear a helmet, bring water and sunscreen, watch out for children on the trail, and have a good time!

The Minuteman Bikeway passes through the historic area where the American Revolution began in April 1775.

Today, the Minuteman Bikeway is one of the most popular and successful rail-trails in the United States, enjoyed for both healthy recreation and transportation.

The bikeway has become a new type of “Main Street” where neighbors and strangers alike come together while riding, walking, or skating on the path.

In 2008, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy inducted the Minuteman Bikeway into the national Rail-Trail Hall of Fame.

It was a great ride. Just a little rain along the way. :)

Five of us did the whole ride. We agreed to call ourselves "diehards" although I suggested "idiots."

Just curious, how fast is "moderate" (a 5 minute mile?)? I'm pretty new to biking, and have a city bike, not a road bike... do most folks ride road bikes? Just want to be sure I'm going to be able to keep up!

Thanks so much for clarifying... it sounds like it'll be fine. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Tracy, here is the math:1/(5/60) = 12 miles per hour! That is not a fast pace. Millions of people RUN faster than that. I could catch you with a sprint! On a racing bike, on the flat, I average over 20mph. ;-)

Five of us trudged on to Bedford. Nice cleansing downpours. Serious puddles on the way back. All-in-all, good character-building stuff. :-)

I cancelled yesterday, because of lightning warnings. And yep, it looked ominous today, all morning and looked like a storm brewing. Also, I was in Boston early this morning and there was a fantastic rainbow, looking in a West direction. Good job I got a lot of riding in yesterday.

Yes, we rode in the rain and yes, there was a downpour (at times), but we had great time on the trail regardless. After all, it's summer time and the temps are warm! So, who can resists a little adventure in the rain? Thanks for the great ride guys and hope to see you again on another exciting ride.

I almost reached Lexington but could not catch you. It is not fun to ride in a pouring rain, alone, so I gave up and came back to Arlington. Hope to ride with the group another time.

I'm sad to cancel but it's flooding here, so no cycling outside for me today. Maybe I'll dig the roller skates out of the basement. Hope to meet you all soon.

Got caught in a storm once on my bike, not looking forward to it again so I had to cancel. Maybe another day

I hear thunder in the background. I'm canceling as well.

I just cancelled too, the current report sounds bad, downpours, lightning. Hope to catch you all on another ride soon.

    September 1, 2013

  • Tracy

I'm going to cancel for today - it's thundering etc near me, and my brother is a local weatherman and tells me it's going to be pretty iffy all day, particularly as we approach early afternoon. My bike is pretty new and I don't want to get rained on :( ! I was really looking forward to meeting everyone. Well, next time...

These storms seem to pass quickly. Just a question of whether any storms pop up around the time of the ride...or during

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
