Season Opener: Charles River Bike Loop to the USS Constitution

  • This location is shown only to members

  • It is time to pull the wheels out of the attic, pump the tires, fasten the helmet and ride!

Let's begin with a familiar favorite - the Paul Dudley White bike path around the Charles Tiver. We’ll begin our ride starting at the Christian Herter Park in Boston/Allston,  which has a large parking lot. The journey will take us east past BU and the Hatch Shell to the Museum of Science. We'll cross O'Brien Highway and traverse through Nashua Street Park, up Nashua Street to the TD Banknorth arena (Bruins are out of town). We'll continue over the Greenway to the Charles River Dam.  After walking our bikes over the dam, we'll take a break at the USS Constitution Park. From there, we'll pass through Paul Revere Park and North Point Park, and cross back over the O'Brien Highway to rejoin the bike path heading west. We'll pass MIT and Harvard and complete the ride back at Christian Herter Park.

Distance: Approximately 10 miles each way(20 miles total); 2 hours round trip,  plus time for lunch and breaks.

Post bike lunch options;  Harvard Square, about 1.5 miles Frim the parking lot. There are restaurants in Winthrop Park. where we can get food and beverages.

Parking:  Christian Herter park, parking lot at the corner of Soldiers Field Rd and Everett St. Boston. 1175 Soldiers Field Road.  Parking is free.

(A good GPS location to use is the Skating Club of Boston, which is across the street. Its address is 1240 Soldiers Field Road.)

Place to meet:  Christian Herter Park parking lot (see above for address). Look for the bikes.

So sorry for the late notice. I can not make the ride today.

I suggest we postpone this ride. The paths have areas which in all probability will have large puddles. I will repost this event.

Regarding the weather, we'll make a decision on Sunday morning. The current forecast indicates mostly cloudy with a chance of showers.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
