TJ's to El Dorado Park and back

This is a very flat, approx. 25 mile route, along bike laned highways and paved bicycle trails.  We leave Trader Joes and head to Warner, down Warner to PCH and turn right.  Stay on PCH through Seal Beach to the San Gabriel River Trail (SGRT).  Onto the SGRT north, past the 405 freeway, and across the bridge.  Once we reach El Dorado Park we'll go around it counter clockwise, then do the same thing on the upper end of the park.

We'll take a break in north end of the park by the lake, then follow the paths back down the west side of the park, through the underpass and continue through the park until we reach the SGRT again, then head south towards the ocean, crossing back over the bridge to the east side of the SGR.  As we go under PCH it's important to slow down as there will be a sharp U-turn at the top of the other side.  Turn right onto PCH and continue through Seal Beach, past the Naval Weapons Station, and past the Surfside Colony.  Turn right at Anderson (at the water tower), and onto South Pacific through Sunset Beach to Warner.  A left on Warner, across PCH and back to Algonquin and TJ's.

Restrooms are available in TJ's at the start, and throughout El Dorado Park.  On the return leg there are several restrooms in Sunset Beach, and one at the end near Warner Avenue.

Check your bike out the night before, and

make sure it's ready to go BEFORE coming to ride,

or be there early enough to do so before we ride.

It was better than I thought. Lots of nature on the SGRT, the ride on PCH was nice. Park was nice. Kudos to Gina for being so darn useful! I hope if I ever fall she is there.

Well, that was fun. Good weather for it too. Hope Judy's leg heals soon and that it didn't take much stitches to close it up. See you all soon.

I survived, but had to get 5 stitches. The staff was impressed with Gina's bandage and Herb said many thanks to Dean for the escort back to the parking lot. We went on a short ride today just to get the blood flowing and all is well. Watch out for the brightly painted yellow poles on trail croissings, Duh. Hope to see you all next week. Judy

The ride itself was good, but marred when Judy collided with a steel pole in El Dorado Park and thrown to the ground, suffering a gash to her leg. It didn't appear serious, but would need medical attention beyond Gina's first aid assistance. Thanks Dean for escorting her husband back to their car and back to the park. We also got to welcome new member Vince, and hope he'll be back often. Several of us had a delightful Chinese lunch post ride and enjoyed the camaraderie.

I've had a few inquiries about why this ride isn't going to the lighthouse in downtown LB. Simple answer is that the area is undergoing preparation for the Gran Prix next month, and there could be some issues. This route to and around El Dorado Park is about the same distance, and gives us less time on the streets. We'll do the lighthouse ride again after the Gran Prix.
