A FLAT 24 (almost) IN OC

 70 miles too much?

Not sure about 35 miles?

Want to ride on a Sunday?

Well then.......

Here's a very flat 23.5 miles around Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

We'll meet in the rear parking lot behind the medical office building on the corner of Warner and Los Jardines West. Ride time is 8:30, so be there sooner!

We start out of the parking lot, down Los Jardines West to Slater and turn right.  We stay in the bike lane on Slater all the way to it's end at Graham, and again turn right.  A short hop up to Warner, turn left with the traffic light, and stay in the bike lane all the way down to PCH.  Cross PCH with the traffic light and onto the beach front bike path.

Continue on the bike path, stopping as need be at any restroom along the way, to the HB Pier.  We'll kick back by the pier for 15 minutes or so, then continue south on the bike path.  We will leave the bike path at Brookhurst and go north on Brookhurst to Atlanta, turn right and get back on the SART.  This is a detour around the construction that has the SART closed between PCH and Hamilton.  We then continue up the SART to Slater (2nd street past Moon Park), under Slater and a right U-turn up the other side, then west on Slater in the bike lane to Los Jardines East.  Turn right and back to the parking lot where we started.

Route Map:

The first part of this ride and the last couple of miles are on public streets with bike lanes, so be sure to bring your helmet.

Also be sure to have water and spare tubes.

Things began with a lingering mist in the air and a bit on the chilly side. A few miles on the pedal got the blood pumping, and the air eventually dried, but it remained overcast and cool all morning - great for a ride! We welcomed Tony and Douglas to the group, and enjoyed watching them get some work in by sprinting along PCH and up the SART! The beach front bike path along HB south of the pier was full of people as there was a sand soccer tournament in progress! Just had to slow down a bit and stay alert. We detoured a bit from the detour, taking Brookhurst up to Hamilton and onto the SART. No need to go to Atlanta after all. A few of us had lunch afterwards, and everyone looking forward to the next ride.

I've updated the route and mileage to detour around the lower part of the SART that is closed for construction.
