THIS RIDE HAS BEEN MODIFIED TO ADD A FEW MILES. IT WILL NOW START AT BILL BARBER PARK AND HEAD DOWN THE SDCT TO THE BACK BAY. THE ROUTE MAP HAS BEEN REPLACED, HOWEVER, IF YOU PREFER TO RIDE JUST THE 10 MILE BACK BAY LOOP YOU CAN STILL USE THE MAP AND ZOOM IN ON THE SECTIONS YOU WANT.
This 18-mile ride circles the beautiful Upper Newport Back Bay. We will start out from the parking lot at the Irvine Civic Center/Bill Barber Park, and ride down the SDCT to the bay. The route circles around the beautiful Back Bay on a paved bike trail, with a few blocks on the streets through a residential neighborhood. There will be a couple of short, moderate climbs requiring your lower gears.
Have a light jacket as there is often a breeze in the late afternoon. And as always, bring water, your helmet, and a spare inner tube. It would be a good idea to have both a head light and tail light, although there is ample daylight to do the ride safely.
Post ride dinner to be decided by those who ride! Check out the area (via google maps) and see what's nearby that strikes your fancy! When it starts getting darker earlier we'll move the start time back in half hour increments.
