RIDE THE SART & THE SANTIAGO BIKE TRAIL

  • Oct 26, 2013 · 8:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This ride will start at BoB and go down the SART pass Edna Park crossing over the bridge turning left to go a short distance up the bike trail to W 19th St and again turning left unto Alona St riding it up to Santa Clara Av. Ride on Santa Clara to Main St. Cross STRAIGHT across Main St. and wait for the Northbound light to turn green before going up Main Street. This is a dangerous crossing so only cross with the traffic lights. Just across from the Discovery Science Cntr, we turn left to enter the Santiago Bike Trail. We will regroup here to ensure everyone is with the group. This is one of more scenic bike trails in the OC, so we will ride at an easy pace of 12-13 mph to enjoy the sights. There are many paths leading off this bike trail, if you are not familiar with the area, do not get ahead of the group. Continue riding on the Santiago Bike Trail to approx. mile 7.0 crossing a bridge where we will take a break. We will then cross back over the bridge and turn right to ride up to a left branch of the trail which we will ride up to Villa Park Road and then continue on to Taft Ave. [will regroup here] Turn left on Taft and enjoy a nice gental downhill ride all the way back to the SART. Staying on Taft across the "river", we'll turn right into the golf range and through the parking lot to the Anaheim Cove Trail.  This trail will end at Lincoln, where we turn right and head back over the "river" to the SART, and then onto the SART and back to the BoB.

I hope you have a very enjoyable ride, Cowboy

MAP OF THE RIDE:   http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3558277

As usual make sure you have water, helmet, extra tube and tools to change your tire if you flat. PLEASE have your tires properly inflated BEFORE you get to BoB and plan to arrive by 8:15 a.m. as we will start at 8:30 a.m., even if you are not ready to ride.

Nice cool morning, great riding weather. Nice to see Lori ride with us again, and to see Pam back out on her bike. A warm welcome to Jacqueline and Sally, too. After a slow start and a couple of extra stops, we were able to get some real work in while heading back down the SART, and I found out that I make a pretty good wind break, too! With a couple of route modifications, some did the basic 19 miles, several of us did 27, and a few did 30! Kudos to all. Only mechanical issue along the way was me having a front spoke pop, so I'll have a little extra maintenance work to do before riding again! Most everyone gathered for a post ride lunch at Pepitos and had a good time.

FYI -- I'm planning to add about 9 miles to this by staying on the SART when we return, and go down to, and around Centennial Park (where the soccer fields are), and back up to the BoB.

The ride is 18.7 miles, per the map. More miles Goood! Goooooooooood !!
When we creep back on the SART, I might lurch North to Yorba Park & slither back to the Bob.
This will add about 12 miles. If we want something scary for lunch, we can go to Carl's Jr.
All you fear in a bun is here.
