First Saturday Ride Visits the Newport Back Bay!

We begin assembling at 8:15 am and we start rolling at 8:30 SHARP!!

Route:

LINK to Ride with GPS map and cue sheet : http://ridewithgps.com/routes/841640

We start in the parking at Irvine City Hall (on the right)

North onto San Diego Creek Path

Left Turn toward the Ocean

Follow San Diego Creek Trail [under 405, under Michelson, under Campus, under MacArthur, under Jamboree] to the path parallel to Jamboree

Follow San Diego Creek trail to the hair-pin turn to the left, then right!

Up the path (parallel to Jamboree) to University and turn right (stay on sidewalk or go into the street as you prefer!)

At the top of the hill, before it veers left, is the entrance to the Back Bay, and we go down the hill into the Back Bay!!

Coming out of the the Back Bay, we pass through Newport Dunes and over the bridge ... and come out onto Bayside

Right at PCH onto the sidewalk or on PCH itself if you prefer

Right at Dover (and up onto the sidewalk if you've been in the street)

Right turn onto the path that takes us up to Castaways Park!  Great View and we take a bit of a rest

Continue along the Back Bay Bluffs to Santiago

People wanting a climb make an immediate right, down Polaris Drive and back up the other side of Polaris to Galaxy

People NOT wanting a climb stay on Santiago and then make a right onto Galaxy

Galaxy to the end and right on Santiago

Santiago to Irvine Boulevard and then right up onto the sidewalk

Right onto Brown Trail

Follow Brown Trail where it veers right and they stay on the trail until we reach Jamboree again!

Right onto the sidewalk at Jamboree, and then make the hairpin turn to the right under Jamboree and back to the San Diego Creek Trail

San Diego Creek Trail takes us back to Irvine City Hall!

Glad the ride turned out good with a new route! Sorry I missed it, but will be there for the next one.

Great turnout for a little cruise around the Back Bay. The weather couldn't have been better, overcast but not cold. It was great to see Constance and Gary back in the saddle after healing up (not so great that they both still can ride circles around me -- LOL), and Marea, too, back from a winter hibernation! We welcomed first timers Jackie and Andy, and a few of us gathered at the Einstein Brothers Bagels and enjoyed a few post ride chuckles over food and drink. Good job
    everyone!

Thanks for the kind words. I lost track of everyone and apparently took the shortcut because no one was in the parking lot when I got there- I thought most of the crew was ahead of me, but I suspect I took the wrong, shorter route!

How about Balboa, then the ferry ?

Suggest on the return leg taking the trail by the Korean Church up to Harvard/University and go through Mason Park, then to Jeffrey and over the freeway. Up to the SDCT and then back down to the start. Not sure how many extra miles, but it'll put the total well above 20!
