Thursday Evening Tenley Ride

Location where people meet is in on the sidewalk on Yuma St. next to an open church grassy yard on the FAR EAST SIDE of the circle.

All season long (April to October) we ride each Thursday starting at 6:30 PM and ending before dusk - the ride gets longer as the days get longer and then shorten again after summer solstice. Ride is part of the Potomac Pedalers Touring Club but all are welcome - must bring a helmet and be responsible rider.

* I'm now recommending bringing a road bike with a bike computer and a clip for a cue sheet to do the ride - once you get 30 seconds behind the group, you're on your own - but with a cue sheet you can still enjoy and complete the ride.

Cue sheets are distributed and waivers signed at the start site and multi level ride allows each to follow their own cue sheet - most cluster in fast, medium, and slow groups but sometimes we all come in together for a pizza dinner (most attend but not required).

Post-Pizza party, has been a tradition for everyone who wants to join - $3 a slice and $6 for a salad bar - beer $ varies according to quality but around $5 a glass. If you get off course and drop out of the ride, please come for pizza anyway and meet, chat and eat with the group. Right now we're meeting at Angelico's

Once gin in Potomac Pedaler speak:

When/where: Meet us on the 3900 block of Yuma Street NW (east of the circle) and ride every Thursday until the end of September. We meet and leave promptly at 6:30PM.

Distance: Ride distances are between 10 miles to 20 miles, depending on available daylight. Rides include many rolling hills.

Level: Most participants have done group rides in the past and have road bikes. Routes are almost 100% on roads with traffic, so comfort with road riding is a must. This ride is rated C/CC in the Potomac Pedalers ride table. The pace is 12-16 miles per hour on flat ground and 8-12 miles per hour on hills. If you are a beginner to group rides or don’t know your speed, check out the Potomac Pedalers' ride schedule for other options: http://www.potomacpedalers.org/events/event_list.asp

Beginners are recommended to first try out one “D” class ride to ensure comfort level before moving to a higher level.

More details: Friendly, social ride through side streets down towards the river or into Rock Creek Park and back uphill to the start. Then on to a nearby restaurant for pizza, beer, salad and more socializing! No go if raining or wet roads.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
