Bike, Hike, Kayak & More has been in existence since 2007. I became organizer in March of 2013 when our previous organizer stepped down. The group was originally called the West Bloomfield Mountain Bikes Meetup and has had a few name changes since.
This Meetup group primarily rides the rail to trail systems that stretch around Metro Detroit. We may also post other organized bike rides (outside of Meetup) and paid bike tours. On occasion we do ride one of the many mountain bike trails that dot this area and have also begun to take some day trips to explore trails outside the tri-county area.
From time to time we will also post kayaking, hikes, and other events that may be of interest to members. The goal is a well rounded group with activities that get you outdoors and/or keep you active.
Rides can vary anywhere from 12 to 26 miles or more. You may ride as many or as few miles as you like. Rides will be at a relaxed recreational pace of 12-15 mph. This is a recreational group, not for the serious rider who needs the speed. I will alternate trails to allow members from all areas the opportunity to ride on their side of town as well as alternating between Saturday and Sunday. When possible, I will also offer a different starting point for those who prefer shorter rides.
A mountain bike or similar bike is recommended as many trails are made up of crushed limestone. Helmets are strongly encouraged. You should also carry a spare tube and tools to change a flat tire. All activities carry with them some risk of injury. You are responsible for taking the proper precautions.
It is also recommended that you acquaint yourself with the rules of the roads and trails by reading the booklet "What Every Michigan Bicyclist Must Know". You can find it online at:
It should also be noted that Bike, Hike, Kayak & More DOES NOT support Detroit Critical Mass Rides and will not allow such rides to be posted at this time. While I do support their message, I do not support their methods.
When you ride in an unsafe manner, you not only put yourself in danger, but also those riding with you. Riders who repeatedly ride in a manner that puts other members in danger, disrespect drivers, members of the communities we ride through and other trail users, risk being removed from the group.
