Hike: SMLC Spring Hike at Lost Lake

Hosted by the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy and Six Rivers Land Conservancy

Join us for a colorful hike through our new Lost Lake Nature Preserve, part of our Signature Hike Series. A naturalist will lead the group and point out features of the landscape. Gather between 1:30 - 2:00 for snacks, beverages, and socializing with Conservancy friends at the preserve gathering place. Then from 2:00 - 3:30 we will walk about 1.25 miles; be ready for variable spring weather. No pets please. Donations are welcome in support of the Conservancy.

We had over 100 people show up today at the hike. I think everyone had a great time! Its not everyday we get to view a sandhill crane rookery!

Hey All.. I may have been mistaken.. I originally thought the Rookery was for Great Blue Herons ... then I saw some birds landing (through a spotting scope that is not too good) and thought it was Sandhill Cranes landing (and I did see a Sandhill Crane up close that morning). Alas Sandhill Cranes tend to nest on the ground in wetlands so I most likely it was Great Blue Heron Rookery (which are still rare).

Sorry, woke up to no brakes on my Jeep. Don't want to risk the drive.

Hi Everyone, I was informed that the trail tomorrow will most likely be wet and muddy in spots ... so be prepared for wet conditions. I am looking forward to seeing you all (and meeting you if we have not already met).

The Lost Lake Nature Preserve was purchased by SMLC (with the assistance of a generous donor and SRLC) in August 2013. It is not yet freely open to the public for hiking but SMLC plans to have open trails and a public parking area by the end of summer 2014. Currently since the only access is via Lost Lake Drive (a private drive SMLC cannot open to the public EXCEPT during organized hiking activities) this is one of the few times SMLC can invite the public to this gorgeous 540 acre nature preserve. Last October SMLC had 75 people come out to enjoy this hike... its short and guided... but well worth the trip -- even if you came before because you can help us celebrate Spring! I hope you can come out to enjoy this regional treasure!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
