Ride Of Silence

The Ride of Silence has taken place the 3rd Wednesday evening in May since 2003 to honor those cyclists who have been injured or killed while riding their bikes on public roadways.

We will ride in silence as a procession with a police escort and a lead and follow vehicle. The ride will be ridden at about 7-10 mph. The 6 mile course will begin and end at Reid Park.

More details will become available on the GABA Website; more information about The Ride Of Silence, its history and wherelse in the US and the World where rides will be occurring can be found HERE.

This was my first Ride of Silence. It was a solemn, saddening tour, but very necessary. While we rode in silence, I could not help but notice the many motorists and pedestrians taking note of the Ghost Bike and column of cyclists following behind. Most seemed respectful, if not "awed," by the sight.

Many props to Wayne, Pam and GABA for carrying on this much needed tradition.

Was surprised at the small number of attendees this year.
