"I am sure some of you already know this, for those who don't, here is a cool way to help keep our environment clean, and then some: "Ever heard the expression “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure”? ... MoreSimply put, the Stash Your Trash Program turns used gel packets into charitable donations. It’s our way of playing a role in safeguarding our natural environment while rewarding our customers who strive to make a difference. Stash Your Trash creates an incentive to keep trails and roadways clean of empty gel packet litter by pledging a $5 donation to the non-profit organization of your choice for every 50 empties you return to GU. Simply stash your used packets in a pocket or backpack, save them up in multiples of fifty and download the donation form to select your recipient. You’ve suddenly double-dipped in goodness, protecting the environment while championing a meaningful cause." http://www.guenergy.c... "

"Dear Friends & Fellow Outdoor Enthusiasts: We are a non-profit multi-sport group based in So. California. ... MoreSoCal Bikes Boards & Bites (aka SocalB3 or simply B3) is also an affiliate member of IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association, ID #147517) and proud supporter of CORBA (Concerned Offroad Bicyclists Association). As you may probably know, last year was quite a year for California. Between the budget crisis, the furloughs and the proposed statewide park closures, California certainly had its share of recession woes last year. The governor and state legislature threatened to close about 80% percent of the state parks to the governor’s proposed budget cuts among others the core funding for state parks. The irony of it is, that the governor continues to run “Visit California” ad campaigns both on radio television showcasing none other than the great outdoors of our great state. If state government had their way with the parks, what outdoors were they referring to, you may ask? These closures might have very well come to fruition if not for the vigilant efforts of the leadership and members of the California State Park Foundation (hereinafter “CSPF”). The battle to keep the parks open may have been won for the time being but the war rages on. California is synonymous to the outdoors. Whether it’s a day trip or camping with family and friends, parks in general bring back fond memories of childhood. For most of us, it’s like tradition that’s passed on from one generation to another. The parks are also very instrumental in the continued development of the sport of mountain biking. Needless to say most of the wonderful trails for riding and hiking are within the confines of the state parks. Though there may still be trails and other parks remaining should the closures take place, the pedestrian and equestrian traffic will significantly increase to compensate for these closures. The remaining trails become overcrowded and unsafe. And when this happens mountain bikers have always been the first to be excluded access from these trails. Sadly this would negate the efforts of our advocates who vigorously work to allow riders access to these trails. The closures will definitely play a major role in the decline of the sport, at the very least in the state of California. CSPF is done staving off the park closure proposals. They want to take the issue to you and me, the people of California, to decide the fate of these parks. CSPF is actively working to put the State Park Access Pass on the ballot in November 2010. This is an excerpt from the CSPF site: “The measure is called the "California State Parks and Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund Act of 2010" and calls on Californians to support their state park system and wildlife conservation areas by paying $18 annually for a State Park Access Pass surcharge on vehicle license fees.” “The ballot measure would protect state parks and conserve wildlife by establishing the State Parks and Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund in the state treasury where, by law, it could only be spent on state parks, urban river parkways, wildlife, natural lands and ocean conservation programs. Funding for the Trust Fund would come from an $18 annual State Park Access Pass surcharge on all California vehicles, including motorcycles and recreational vehicles. Larger commercial vehicles, mobile homes and permanent trailers would be exempt. Vehicles subject to the surcharge would receive free, year round admission to all state parks throughout the year. Californians will no longer pay day-use fees at any state parks. In comparison, park visitors currently pay up to $125 for an annual pass or $10-$15 per day at most parks. Out-of-state vehicles would continue to pay full entrance fees at parks.” For more information on the measure and how you can help get it on the ballot this November, please log on to http://www.calparks.o... or contact: ][masked] if you have any questions about the measure. On behalf of all the organizers of SoCalB3, thank you for taking the time to read this important message. CSPF needs your support today! They need your signatures! Together let’s make this happen. It’s time to take back California, one state park at a time. Kind regards, Henry AG SoCal Bikes Boards & Bites www.socalb3.com "
