Morgan Territory (Behind Mt. Diablo) BART to BART 42 miles, 2480 ft. gain

Details:  A wonderful rural-feel bike ride that goes around the East side of Mt. Diablo.

42 miles  2,500+ ft. elevation gain

Pace:     12-14 MPH on the flats, intermediate ride.

Route:  http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/233523053/

You can also complete the loop by bike which would probably make it almost 60 miles.  The recommended route for that is to split from our group at the intersection of Camino Tassajara and Highland Road outside Dublin, then follow Camino Tassajara to Danville Blvd. and get on the Iron Horse Trail for the last several miles (easy finish.)  Event leader does not plan to complete the entire loop, so you're on your own if you wish to do that.

Activity Fee:  $2 (covers website and event planning fees)

Weather Prediction: high of 74 degrees and sunny.  Bring sun block.  Wind SW at 7 MPH.  It may be breezy coming down off the backside.

Bring:  1 bottle electrolytes, 1 bottle water, snacks, tube, helmet.  There will be one planned restroom break and a brief lunch / snack stop, both on top of Morgan Territory Road.  Please use bathroom @ Pleasant Hill BART prior to departure.

Important Note: Morgan Territory Road is very hilly and filled with potholes (see picture below.)  This should not be your first longer distance hill ride.

On the backside, the road goes over some steep hills and some of us like to ride fast.  Make sure you are comfortable riding downhill and your brakes are working good!!!!

Sorry not to wait for those of you on the second BART train; I had time constraints and had to get going. I know the way so 7 of us headed out and all made it to the top of Morgan Territory. After that we took various ways back so hope everyone found their way okay. It's a challenging ride (for me, not everyone!) but beautiful and worth the effort.

Heading to Fremont turned bad for me. My tire ripped in half. I think I ran over pieces of glass/metal from an accident. I got lucky someone with a bike rack stopped and gave me a ride. =) It was all good!

Great route, I had a blast. Too bad about the Bart delays. I'd do this ride again for sure.

The BART delay was annoying but a few of us still got a great ride in. Thanks!

Seems like there are some delays on the Pittsburg / Bay pt. trains. The one I'm on is waiting 15 min in Orinda now.

There is a reason the BART went on strike. Because they deserved all that money before they give exceptionally poor service. The train now moved but now we can't get off. We are stopped in no mans land.

If anyone is up for it I'm going to continue to Fremont and take the BART back from there. Looks pretty easy if I take niles canyon rd.

I might head back after we finish the big downhill and make it a loop if anyone else wants to cycle back. I reserve the right to change my mind if the climb has done me in!

Hi Cyclists, I had not set a date for this ride and will be out of town 11/9. I believe Kent announced it and will be hosting it. Please direct any questions and comments to him about this ride. Have fun and I hope to do it again in the future!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
