Sorry I couldn't keep up with you guys. Ended up finishing at 19th St BART just before 5. Really great route Franny! I really like the ride along Pinehurst then the hidden Butters road on the other side.

No need to be SORRY. I thought it was so great you and Magnus came along. You had the MOST organized map I'd ever seen. In fact, I got a flat, and we had a longer rest stop at Safeway (Moraga) before Pinehurst, than expected, so we cut the ride short a bit but you did the WHOLE thing! Good for you. Thanks for coming and hopefully we'll do a NorCal or day trip soon again, Jean.

Hey Franny. Thanks for organizing the ride. I'm just disappointed I flatted twice and had to turn out. I do intend to complete this course after I get my bike fixed. Will be looking forward to future rides.

Hi Suraj, Yes, Fletcher caught up with us and told us the news. Sometimes bad luck happens, but at least to your bike not you! I got a flat, too, but at a rest stop. Thanks for coming, it was a toughie. Hope to see you on an upcoming ride!

Hey, Farshid~ haha, well, I knew you were independent in these matters and glad you make your way. See you next time! Thanks for coming.

Thanks for coming out today for this challenging ride. I appreciated everyone's support: patience with catchup, support in helping with flats, lending a tube, and feeling independent enough to peel off at BART locations or follow a well-organized map!

Air looks good now. Let's hope it stays that way! Winds dying down, humidity expected to increase a little.

    Hi again all-

As you know, the prevailing winds have carried the brush fire smoke from Suisun to Oakland and SF. The first is supposed to be contained by nightfall, and the winds are supposed to continue, hopefully blowing out the smoke. I'm not canceling the ride at this time, but I will leave a message here and email you at 8 AM if the smoke will be an issue.

Hi Cyclists~I'm looking forward to riding with you tomorrow. We'll be joined by others from Bay Area Cyclists. It's slated to be a pretty hot day, 80's, so bring plenty of fluids, at least two bottles. We'll have enough stops for refills, though. Use the BART bathroom if it's open or we can stop at one early in the ride.

I'll probably meet the group at the emergency preparedness exhibit by tunnel road, so don't wait for me.

Wimp! lol Fletcher-we'll probably we swinging by there about 10:15-ish. If we're a little late, don't worry. We'll see each other on the way up.

I have an old 70's KHS. Its a 10 speed maybe? It gets around the city pretty well... I'm not an experienced cyclist, but I'm in pretty good shape. Is this ride only advisable with a solid road bike or will I be alright?

    September 26, 2013

    • Franny

Corey, same answer as to Suraj: this is definitely an advanced-intermediate ride with a lot of climb. I can never assess any individual's ability. You are more than welcome to join in, and if you find at any time the route is tough, we'll never be foo far from civilization and you can bail out using the map and GPS on your phone.

How bad are the climbs on this route while trying to keep pace?

This is a maybe for me. I'm recovering from an injury (descending Claremont about 7 weeks ago), and getting my road bike back from the shop this week. Not sure if I'll be able to handle all the miles or elevation, but might join and peal off earlier if I need to.

Maynard, I just signed up for 2014 AIDS LifeCycle. I'd love to pick your brain about it sometime.

Congrats on signing up Joi! It's quite a ride, in every sense - I'm excited for the adventure you have ahead. Feel free to PM me to discuss. I'm a 5 time veteran and have lots of advice! [masked]
