Port of Oakland imports and exports kind of overlap! Top 10 exports: Fruits/nuts, meats, electronics, wine/spirits, dairy, minerals, medical equipment, cotton!

Top 10 imports: Machinery, electrical equipment, furniture/bedding, wine/spirits, plastics, cars, coffee/tea/spice (mmm,) toys/sports equipment (your bike?,) medical instruments.

    That's all folks!

Port of Oakland: receives no tax money from the city. Supports businesses that provide tax to Oakland and the state. Operates the Oakland Airport. First port on the Pacific Coast. Also, the area where the "mole" was built 1882, the west terminus for the First Transcontinental Railroad. Passengers then took ferries to SF.

Thanks for being such a great group with patience during the unexpected marathon! And for indulging me with my new toy, the mini-megaphone! I'm sorry you missed the Port Park turnoff, but I wanted to go back to escort a couple of cyclists in the rear who needed some direction. Dang! I missed the Saloon-well next time! Glad you all found you way! Port Facts coming!

Hi Franny and everyone. Very sorry to cancel but my knee has flared up again. Will keep trying! Have a great day together!

Additional highlights will include: an early stop at the amazing Arizmendi bakery where we can fill up on water and food, and Pixar studios. If you can't use the restroom before the ride, there will be facilities near the bakery and on the bay bridge. See you Sunday!

  • Franny

Hi Cyclists~ First, I was just informed that Sunday is also the day of the Oakland Running Festival. The ONLY portion of our route that will be affected is Lake Merritt, so I'm tagging it on at the END when things quiet down. We may have to finesse our finish. We will meet at the FRANK OGAWA PLAZA 14th and Broadway between the BART elevator and flagpole , and make our way out of the "running zone" a short distance away. I highly recommend you come by BART since parking may be tough and only found on the outskirts of central downtown. Please plan your trip accordingly in order to be on time!

If you are no longer able to attend, please do update your RSVP to "No" as a courtesy. I'll e-mail my # to you, but after we leave, I won't be able to check for texts.

Not sure if I'm gonna come or not but have u planned for Oakland marathon around this?

    1 · March 20, 2014

    • Max

Got it, but the lake is gonna be a mad house with lots of streets and sections closed off so be advised, Bart will also be pretty packed so plan accordingly

      1 · March 21, 2014

    • Franny

Yeah, our route avoids the running routes, except the lake which I'll save until the end instead of the beginning. And it's ok in the counterclockwise direction apparently. We'll see when the time comes.

I'll put the MayMyRide version back up although it's not as accurate. I also have cue sheets to give out this time, Bill.

      March 20, 2014

    • Franny

Bill, see if this works-it's a very rough route, not the exact paths we will take. I've tried two programs to map out rides and neither are great but see if this opens: http://www.mapmyride....

The Bay Bridge Path WILL BE OPEN for our ride. One of our savvy cyclists, Dalton, looked at the website:

    Hi Franny,
What direction are we going place to place wise? I have to be in North Berkeley earlier then the end of the ride and need to figure out a modified route.
    Thanks in advance,
    Carla

    • Franny

Carla, I just added a route map. Please click on the link. Basically we are starting and ending at 12th St. BART going pretty much in a counter-clockwise route except Lake Merritt is clockwise.

Hi, I was just curious, what is the $2 fee going towards?

    1 · March 17, 2014

    • Rick C

Some organizers charge $5 dollars per event. I feel this $2 charge is a deal.

      2 · March 17, 2014

    • Franny

Thanks, Rick. Btw, I post many free rides, too. They're usually the smaller, harder ones.

  • Yi

how likely is it to get a flat? the instruction said to bring a tube

    March 16, 2014

    • Franny

Hi Yi, cyclists know that it's ALWAYS possible to get a flat no matter what terrain you're riding on. It's completely unpredictable and you should know how to change a flat although there should be other riders to help if it happens. Please be aware that I can't hold up a large group for a flat tire. Thanks.

  • Angelica

    This is tentative. Thanks!
