Iron Horse Trail + Livermore circle with wine stop(s)

So, here's more or less a repeat of the ride we did on March 2. I added Iron Horse Trail mileage.

This time, we will meet at Pleasant Hill BART at 9 AM, ready to roll at 9:15 AM. We will ride south on the Iron Horse Trail to Dublin/Pleasanton BART and circle around Livermore. About 80% of the ride will be on bike trails with no car traffic. The best bike to take is a road bike or a hybrid. But in general, I leave it up to you to decide.

WARNING: We will not be returning back to Pleasant Hill BART station (unless you really want to), so make sure you choose the right transportation to the meeting point. Our ride will end at Dublin/Pleasanton BART.

Bring snacks, plenty of water/lytes, spare tube, helmet and a smile :)

Wine tasting/lunch stop will be at Rubino Winery: http://www.rubinoestateswinery.com/home

Thanks for organizing Zuzana. Great to meet some new cyclists. The rattlesnake encounter was very cool, too. Hope to see y'all at another ride.

Very good ride. Beautiful scenery. Two winery stops! Thank you for organizing this. My only wish is that the group could wait for slower paced riders at turns on the return ride. At least four of us were left behind. It took us quite an adventure to return to the BART station (which was fun). Please consider having a sweeper. (I know it's difficult after having wines.)

Agreed, great adventure! Hope you guys found your way back to BART quickly. I found my way back as soon as I got over that hill, you can see our obvious wrong turn on my Strava map: http://www.strava.com...

Oh awesome, a map! I was trying to retrace our route on Google Maps but this is much more useful. We took Hopyard and eventually made it to BART as well. But yeah, it was very fun, despite the getting lost part, haha.

Thanks again Zuzana for organizing, great to see a bunch of old riding buddies and meet a bunch of great new people as well. Hope to see you all on another ride soon.

I couldn't find IHT near Dublin BART. Fount it at West Las Pisitas. It's under construction (near completion), however. Hope I will find the group.

New to the group here. Is there someone planing on riding back to pleasant hill from Dublin? I am planning on driving my car to the start as I live a bit far - redwood City - but want to join the fun anyways.

    • Ryan LaBarre

http://www.mapmyride.... IHT route is ~19 miles and only 50ft of climbing, last half all slight descent. That would be a nice little warmup to the real ride, if parking at Dublin/Pleasanton BART at ~7:40.

      April 11

    • Lillie Yili

Thanks Ryan. Don't like the traffic from bart. I will park at the plaza at the start point of the trail and then ride up.

Is there any option to join you guys at Dublin/Pleasanton BART? 9am is too early for me or I am not sure if I can make 40+ miles.

Hey Kuro, I intend to join at Dublin Bart as well.

Sounds like fun. I live in Danville. Can I meet you on the Iron Horse Trail as you make your way down from Pleasant Hill? If so, is there a way to trade phone numbers or get an idea of when you'll be making your way through Danville? I could easily meet you where the trail crosses West Prospect near the Farmer's Market event.

    April 7

    • Don Wexler

For the record, the time it will likely take with a group this size to get from PH BART to Danville (where the Trail crosses Hartz) should be about 1 Hr to 1 Hr and 15 min. So, leaving at 9:45am we'll get to that crossing right around 11am...or so I estimate.

      April 9

    • Zuzana P.

Don, thx for the estimate. Since we are meeting at 9 AM, I am hoping to leave PH Bart by 9:15 AM, so hopefully at around 10/10:15ish we will get to the crossing of Iron Horse Trail and West Prospect.

      April 9

  • Dolf

How many hours the whole ride?

    April 9

    • Ryan LaBarre

It's tough to estimate exactly which such a large group and a wine stop, but expect to be back to BART by 3-4pm.

      1 · April 9

  • Jennifer fink

My hubby & I are planning on Barting back to PH from Dublin. We may have to scoot a bit early as we both have clients in the afternoon (5 PM for me) so we need to make sure we're presentable by that time!

  • leslee larner

Looks like great fun, but I'm a novice rider with a slight fear of hills (I noticed a level 4 one on the route map)
A few questions about the ride--
Is the 42 milage roundtrip or do we shuttle back on BART?
About how many hours of cycling is this trip?
And is there any way to avoid those 2 big hills on the route map????
    Thanks!!

    April 8

    • Ryan LaBarre

Hey Leslie, if you think you're comfortable with the mileage (it's 42 miles total round trip), you will be totally fine. It's not a steep hill, it's very slight and just a bit long, but it's not bad at all. And with the nice easy pace of this group, you won't have any trouble tackling it.

Hi, new to the group and am just wondering what the expected finish time is.

    March 27

    • Zuzana P.

Hi Kaya, sorry for a late reply. Last time we did this ride, we finished at around 3 PM. Since this is a bit longer ride, I expect to finish at 4 PM.

      April 1

  • Coy T.

What is the expected pace and if no drop?

    March 10

    • Zuzana P.

Coy, I have no intentions to lose anyone along the road. I like to announce regroup points and I am certain that there will be riders of all kinds of pace and speed, so it should not be a problem to join the group that suits you. Since most of the ride is on bike paths, we should not suffer from the red-light-at-the-intersection-splitting-the-group-syndrome. I wouldn't be too worried.
