Introduction

Hello! I live in South San Jose with my wife and son. I ride for fitness, but also go in and out of striving to get faster and stronger. I really love riding with other cyclists which is why I'm stoked to be a part of this group.

Do you ride a road bike or a mountain bike?

Road mostly, but I'm open to beginner (barely technical) mountain bike rides. There was a time that I was riding my MTB regularly, but because it takes a bit more planning and effort to get to the cool MTB roads, I could never fully commit.

Do you prefer dirt road or paved road?

Definitely prefer paved roads. When I was younger it wasn't a big deal to ride my road bike in the grass or dirt, but these days my heart skips a beat if I barely touch the shoulder gravel.

Do you consider yourself a beginning, intermediate, or advanced rider?

I think I'm pretty good for the average cyclists. If I were seriously training and racing with a team, I'd be lucky to have a Cat 5 pack finish.

What's the longest or the most difficult ride you've ever done?

I think the Tierra Bella 100 miler ranks up there as one of the toughest rides I've completed. It's a ride that's early in the season and if the weather isn't cooperating, you lose some seriously needed training time. Luckily I made my way to the spin bike on those days, but it just wasn't the same. I chose to do the entire ride without drafting. My goal was to see what I could do on my own. The climb up Henry Coe was punishing after having already climbed to the base of it. Even worse was the gruelling headwinds out to Bailey. I finished really strong and still felt I had another 5 to 10 miles in the tank after all was said and done. Total Time (including stops) was just a hair over 8 hours and I think I could shave 10 to 30 minutes off that time if I were to completely unleash all I have at 80 miles, instead of the chosen 90 miles. Of course, it's easy to say that when you're NOT on the bike. ;-)

Tell us about your riding preferences. E.g., Where do you usually ride? How long do you usually ride? How often do you ride? ...

  • Yes, minor adjustment, but when the rain reached my socks I cut the loop short.

  • Lover, Can you please update your profile questions for the Hammerin' Wheels Road bike club to indicate whether or not you agree to the club waiver. I am going to begin removing those who have not yet taken action. Thanks!

  • Bummed I can't make this ride on Saturday AM. We are clearing out stuff with a garage sale. I'm going to try the Hick's ride on Sunday AM. Thanks for getting me psyched about group riding George.

  • Thanks George for hosting our ride on Saturday 6/11/11. What a blast! I look forward to riding with you again. I'm bummed that I won't be able to do the Coyote Creek trail ride on the 26th due to other committment. Hopefully you'll do that one again soon. You picked a good Giants game. It was good that you missed Lincecum, cuz he stunk it up on Saturday!
